About Commission
The Local Government Service Commission (LGSC) is a statutory body established to oversee the administration, development, and regulation of human resources within the Local Government system. The Commission is responsible for ensuring that Local Government Councils are staffed with competent, disciplined, and motivated personnel capable of delivering effective and efficient public services at the grassroots level.
The Commission operates in accordance with relevant laws and regulations guiding public service administration. It serves as an impartial authority that promotes professionalism, transparency, accountability, and merit in the management of Local Government staff.
Mandate / Functions
The mandate of the Local Government Service Commission includes, but is not limited to, the following functions:
Recruitment, appointment, promotion, and confirmation of staff in the Local Government Service
Posting and transfer of personnel across Local Government Councils
Exercise of disciplinary control over Local Government staff in line with extant rules
Maintenance and management of staff records and service data
Advising the government on matters relating to Local Government manpower planning and development
Implementation of approved policies, circulars, and regulations affecting Local Government employees
Coordination of training and capacity-building programs to enhance staff performance and productivity
